Getting inspired: Laura Bell

As I begin to work on a series focused more on organic composition rather than symmetry, I stumbled upon Laura Bell's work, and most notably her Morphosis series. Her inspirations were drawn from a variety of natural forms including deep-sea flora and fauna and cryptogamous plants such as algae and fungus. She builds each form up through repeating marks and patterns, letting each drawing evolve as it will. This touches on some of my desires to look upon natural forms and patterns for inspiration and likely leading into reading about Sacred Geometry as it pertains to nature, design, and art.

While the images are built on symmetrical and orderly forms, the drawings evolve and develop into a semi-chaotic tangle of ropy vines, bulbous growths, and spiky creatures.
