Okay... here is my full featured artist post! My featured artist this week is Archan Nair. Archan is a self-taught artist, was born in India in 1984, formerly a fashion major working in his family company. Around 2006 he began to discover his love and talent in painting and digital art. Since becoming a an independant artist in 2007, Archan has worked with some major companies and magazines including: Nike, Sony, Microsoft, GQ, Vogue, and you have likely seen some of his car company ads for Chevrolet and others.

I first discovered Archan Nair's art on a Facebook art page I follow, Art People Gallery, and fell in love with his surreal mixed media creations. His whimsical juxtapositioning of shapes, forms, and colors pulled me into another universe entirely, where our creative selves are fully expressed outside of our bodies and our inspirations manifest before our eyes for all to see.
He has such a unique set of color palettes that are bold and bright while still giving subdued and earthy shades equal share.

Here's a little Q&A from Archan Nair:
What is the greatest source of inspiration in your life?
For me, every moment in life is inspiring. No matter what we experience, see or feel anything can serve as a source of inspiration: entertainment, music, travel, science and technology or nature ... all this for me is an enormous, inexhaustible source of inspiration.
Describe to us a bit of your creative process:
I love experimenting. and I get bored very easily .. so I always need new ways to innovate and create. When I am creating my subconscious always reminds me of how much more can I explore.. I usually would start an artwork by beginning with water colours to create a base, and then paint digitally. Print the artwork on a canvas and use acrylic paints, pens and markers for line art drawings, 3D objects or even scraps , and experiment with traditional and digital medias on and off the entire process , even images or anything which I would connect with during the creation of the artwork, until I feel I am ready.
What drives you to create, or what is the soul vision behind your works of art?
The excitement to share, to express, to inspire is always pushing me to create. My works express what I feel, a lot of the phases and moments I observe around me, and it really depends on a particular mood. It's the zone I'm in to create at that time.
How has the internet helped you get your name out there?
Technology in any form, mobile, internet, has not only made the world smaller, but the way we keep in touch with easy other has become far more easier, whether it be friends or network. I feel it plays an equal role having a website presence as much as showcasing our artworks in the real physical plane. I believe that if we create from our hearts, all of these areas of communication and display help in one way or the other.
Any advice you'd give to other illustrators or artists?
To follow your heart, to be absolutely original, and to explore and enjoy what you do.

What I hope to take with me into the studio from looking at Archan's works, is a greater sense of whimsy and letting go. To be happy with what comes out on the surface and to let it breathe and gain it's own creative life. I also hope to learn a bit more to embrace my creative self fully and let those inspirations manifest themselves into my work. Now onward to my next post for this Double Post Monday!
